The main event of the day was a first team match in the Midland and North league.
 | | Cycle Speedway - Wayne Chattin |
The Sandwell riders dominated winning all but three heats of the eighteen race programme. In a contest that was ultra competitive and aggressive at times the spirit of fair play was always evident. In the opening heats the visitors were having problems adjusting to the tricky Sandwell oval particularly the first turn which saw its fair share of spills with riders coming together and taking a closer than preferred look at the shale track. Heat eight saw a minor breakthrough for the visitors with Darren Spencer finally taking an excellent heat win.
 | | Cycle Speedway - Andy Angel |
In the second half of the contest both Corey Graham and the tenacious Andy Angel who entertained in one way or another all day long both posted heat wins for the visitors. These successes however were few and far between as the day really belonged to the excellent Sandwell team who had strength and skill in abundance right through the card. Phil Hemming ended the day top of the score card with 19 points followed by Mike Bough, David Ball and Jamie Ball all on 15 points, Wayne Chatting ended the day at 14 points, the superb Tom Hibbert on 13 points and who at times rode with a maturity beyond his years giving a master class of team riding in heat 16 allowing the home team to take maximum points. At the final flag of the contest the score board read Sandwell 111 Hull 66. |
