Saltwells Local Nature Reserve was created in 1981 and covers the deciduous Saltwells Wood. Oak and Beech home to many species of woodland bird. The Treecreeper, Jay and Great Spotted Woodpecker can often be seen and within the wood.

The spectacular cliffs of Doulton Calypit offer a focal point in the reserve.

Within the woodland is an area of scrubland and meadow which provides a safe refuge for winter birds like the Water Rail, Snipe and Teal.

Sixteen species of dragonfly are found here on the Daphne Pool, making this one of the best sites for these insects in the West Midlands.
