Activities and practices may be adapted to make it easier for you to learn or perform.

Ways of adapting activities or practices

  • adapt/change pitch/court layout
  • adapt/change team size/number of opponents/team mates
  • adapt/change equipment
  • adapt/change pitch/court size
  • adapt/change scoring system
  • adapt/change playing/practising time
  • adapt/change rules
  • make opponent passive/active
  • speed up/slow down practice
  • addition of a condition

Examples of adaptation

  • Equipment

    Changed from a full sized racquet, to a shorter racquet. The shorter racket length allowed me to have better hand eye coordination [Coordination: The ability to use two or more body parts together. and therefore more success.

  • Team size

    Changed from 11v11 to 5v5. The smaller team size meant I had much more time, space and touches on the ball. Therefore improved the transfer of skills [Skill: The learned ability to choose and perform the right techniques at the right time. learned into a game situation.

  • Playing area

    Changed from full pitch/court, to half pitch/court. The smaller pitch/court size meant I had to be much more accurate with my passing / hitting as there was less space. Also I was not as tired playing on half pitch/court so my performance [Performance: How well a task is completed. level remained high.

  • Rule change

    Volleyball - we can catch the ball, in the volley position. This allowed me to get used to the movement required for volleyball and also to play a conditioned game before I had learned to successfully play a volley pass.
