Wages

Commission

Salespeople are paid commission.

The more they sell, the more they earn.

Examples

Jim earns a basic wage of £80 per week. He gets commission of 4% on his sales. Find his wage, in a week when he has sales of £2500.

Commission = 4% of £2500

= £100

Pay = £80 + £100

= £180

Ann earns commission of 2.5% on all sales over £50000 per month. Find her commission in a month when her sales are £125000.

Commission paid on £125000 - £50000

= £75000 (i.e. amount over)

Commission = 2.5% of £75000

= £1875
