Speaking is very important in the Standard Grade French exam - it is worth one third of the marks awarded.

Solo talk

In the course of your 4th year, you will be expected to sit three speaking assessments, usually in class time.

These will include:

Teenage boy smiling
  • a presentation / solo talk

Topics for the speaking tests will be:

  • personal information such as family, leisure interests, school, holidays, money, home town etc.
  • a subject which interests you, or which you know something about

You will be assessed on:

  • content - is what you say long enough, is it interesting, is it original?
  • quality of your language - is your grammar accurate, do you use a variety of sentence structures?
  • delivery - is your pronunciation good, do you sound fluent and confident?

Have a look at the Planning Bite in writing as well: this may help you with preparing a presentation.
