Timeline of events

Back

While it is important to know the plot of Macbeth in detail, it is useful to have a quick 'shorthand' idea of the main order of events that you can quickly think through when writing about how characters or events develop through the play.

The witches

(Act 1, Scene 3)

The three witches meet in the storm and talk about a great battle. They tell about a famous and brave soldier called Macbeth who is fighting for the King of Scotland against his enemies. Their prophecy that Macbeth will one day be King is very important to the plot of the play.
