Obtaining particular information
Whether you write an essay or answer a series of questions based on a text, you are attempting to show that you understand certain reading purposes.
When reading any text, you will be expected to -
In close reading texts, this really means that you should understand that different questions ask you to show awareness of different purposes.
Reading purpose b: picking out individual pieces of information from a text. This means that the reader is expected to identify specific, individual items of information in the text: what people do, what places look like, what evidence there is for something happening, what reasons are offered for a character's behaviour, and so on.
