Cells and diffusion


For your biology exam you should be able to

  • say what stains are, and why they are used
  • describe the basic structures of plant and animal cells and the functions of the main structures
  • describe the process of diffusion and state why it is important to both whole organisms and single cells
  • explain osmosis using the terms selectively permeable membrane and concentration gradient
    • give examples of substances that enter and leave cells
    • explain the effects of osmosis on plant and animal cells in terms of the concentration of the solution they are placed in
