The
books were opened on a Friday during the prayer service, hundreds
of people paid their respects to the victims of the Madrid tragedy.
But when they were unlawfully removed and the police had no luck
in finding them.

| Books
of condolence |
Very
soon after, new books were opened and many people from all over
Birmingham and foreign visitors signed these books including politicians,
celebrities and well known personalities. They were also signed
by Birmingham's main faith leaders in a joint gesture of solidarity.
We
will be presenting these books in June to a representative of the
Spanish Consulate so that they may take these messages to the families
and loved ones of the victims of the Spanish bomb attacks.

your messages...
However,
the new books don't have enough contributions as the originals and
so we have sent out a plea to numerous primary and secondary schools
in Birmingham asking them to contribute in any way that they can.

condolence pictures made by Muslim children |
Children
have already made collages with messages of peace and love and have
provided poems, pictures and the like towards the books.
We
would also like to extend this request and opportunity to all of
the people of Birmingham. The books are not restricted to Muslims
but are a gesture of peace to the people of Madrid from the whole
of Birmingham.
Anyone
and everyone is welcome to contribute messages of peace and hope
in any language and in any style for the people of Spain and for
global peace. Especially with the current climate of unease and
tyranny in the world, this is that vital opportunity to show Spain
and others that we can live together and share our ideas of a peaceful
society together and that we do care for the victims of war, terror
and similar atrocities.
Send
