Gypsies have been an integral part of Birmingham and Midland life for centuries.

However, their history has remained largely invisible.

Ted Rudge's book Brumroamin - Birmingham and Midland Gypsey and Traveller Culture is illustrated with photographs, historical sources and personal momentos and brings Romany gypsy traveller culture to life.

Toria and Ted
Ted Rudge with Romany Gypsy Toria.

Ted explores the gypsy history in Birmingham, in particular looking at 'Black Patch' in Winson Green which was home to more than 300 Romany families from the 1890's.

Says Ted; "I just love the people, the way they have mixed in and nobody knows they are here."

Take a look at some of the stunning images that feature in 'Brumroamin' of Romany Gypsies in Birmingham.
