FACTS

The Highways Agency are responsible for all motorways and major trunk roads in England.

The M6 is the longest motorway in the UK.

The first motorway to be built was the reston Bypass (now part of the M6) in December 1958.

arrow M6 Junctions 5 and 6 Northbound

What's being done?
Resurfacing, to get rid of potholes.

How will this affect the traffic?
Two lanes will run in each direction. There will be a 40mph speed limit.

How long will it take?
From early July 2004, the Highways Agency predicts it will take 20 weeks (until November).

Is there an alternative route?

arrow M6 Junctions 8 Northbound

What's being done?
Resurfacing, to get rid of potholes, plus repairs to the concrete structure.

How will this affect the traffic?
Two lanes will run in each direction. Traffic will not be able to join the M6 south at junction 9. There will be a 40mph speed limit.

How long will it take?
From 7 June 2004, the Highways Agency predicts it will take 21 weeks (until November).

Is there an alternative route?

What's being done?
Resurfacing.

How will this affect the traffic?
Two lanes will run in each direction.
From the M6 (both directions), there will be no access to the A38 at junction 6.
From the A38, there will be no access to the M6 southbound at junction 6.
There will be no access from Salford Circus to the M6 southbound.

How long will it take?
The work will commence in early July and take approximately 9 weeks (to be completed by September).
