If, like me, you’ve grown up reading magical tales of Hobbits and heroes, the fourth Tolkien weekend was an absolute must!

With all the interest created by Peter Jackson’s amazing, Oscar winning movie versions of the Lord Of The Rings and the Two Towers, the Tolkien trail of Sarehole Mill, Moseley Bog and the water tower and Perrot's Folly, have become 'must sees' for fans.
ADVENTURES IN MIDDLE EARTH
Saturday 17th May saw my friend Roma and I, in search of Gandalf, Bilbo Baggins and company being brought so convincingly to life by local actors from Shire Productions.

We fearlessly battled the elements, the relentless wind and rain, (well it WAS wet and showery!), and were guided to 'The Shire', hearing extraordinary tales as we travelled along in fellowship! You could close your eyes and imagine the magical, mystical tales, transporting you back to another time, another space.

We foraged for food and drink in the clearing. Why does hot chocolate always taste better outdoors?!

Perrot's Folly
Perrot's Folly
We stepped back in time on board a 1950's tour bus, saw Tolkien's childhood haunts and heard stories about his life, the inspiration for his fabulous work.

Other attractions of the day were, Birmingham Vikings, Morris Dancers, seeing Mike The Miller (Michael Forbes), give corn grinding demonstrations, and then there was the craft tent!

I'm a born shopper when it comes to anything crafty! I loved the soaps with names such as 'The One Soap' and 'Gandalf' - made by Under Capricorn from goat's milk. They smelt yummy too!

The calligraphy sculpture

The calligraphy demonstrations and displays were wonderful.

However, it would appear I was drawn to the 'Dark Side', having photos taken with an Orc AND a wraith! Strange forces at play methinks!

So roll on Christmas and The Return Of The King…until then…Elvish has left the building!
