Mother Courage and her Children
On the battlefield
Told with humour and song this remarkable and brutal story has Mother Courage switching allegiance when it suits her, using bloody battlefields as her marketplace and a wagon as her stall.

Her story is one of choices and remains a powerful reminder of human resilience and loss in times of war.

An masterpiece of one woman's survival, Mother Courage and Her Children is a story for our time and remains one of Bertolt Brecht's greatest plays.

Mother Courage has been adapted by Nigerian born playwright Oladipo Agboluaje and was commissioned especially for Eclipse Theatre.

Eclipse Theatre was founded in 2002 to raise the national profile of Black middle-scale regional theatre in the UK.

It is responsible to a consortium of three major regional theatres led by Nottingham Playhouse in association with Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Ipswich New Wolsey Theatre.

Mother Courage is the second Eclipse production after the successful 'Moon on a Rainbow Shawl' produced last year.

Top talent

Carmen Munroe who plays Mother Courage is a familiar face on British television and returns to the stage after a 12 year absence.

Mother Courage and Her Children is directed by Josette Bushell-Mingo, one of the country's most exciting young directors.

As an actress Josette is probably best known for creating the role of Rafiki in the original London cast of The Lion King, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award.

At The REP she played Juliet in Gwenda Hughes's acclaimed production of Romeo and Juliet.

With such a strong cast and storyline, Mother Courage looks set to be another success at the Rep.

dB Xpo 2004

Mother Courage is part of the dB Xpo 2004 arts and culture festival happening across the West Midlands throughout February to April.
