| FACTS
& FIGURES FROM 2002 |
 |
|
The
show was open to the public for almost 100 hours over a 10
day period.
There were more than 300 exhibitors at the show with more
than £10 million worth of cars on display.
Named after founder Enzo Ferrari, and seen for the first time
in the UK, the Ferrari Enzo was the most expensive car on
display.
On display was the Bentley Continental GT - with its 12 cylinder
twin–turbocharged engine it is the fastest Bentley in the
marque's 83-year history.
The show boasted 12 world launches with 75 new cars making
their debut.
In the spotlight on the Lexus stand was the concept coupé
used in the film Minority Report and designed for the year
2054.
The show saw the world debut of three James Bond cars - Aston
Martin Vanquish, Ford Thunderbird and a modified Jaguar XKR.
Nine British sports car manufacturers and seven Japanese manufacturers
exhibited.
More than 10 million brochures were given out, 400,000 cups
of tea and coffee were drunk, 350,000 sandwiches were consumed,
150,000 hot dogs and burgers were eaten, 4,500 bottles of
water were sold and 100,000 pints of beer were drunk.

The Motor
Show Live will feature more than 400 brand new cars, stunt racing
in a live action arena, off-roading on a purpose built course and
the opportunity to test drive the cars.
4x4 Experience
 |
| The
2002 Motor Show |
Set in
72 acres of woodland next to the NEC, this will be the largest dedicated
off-road course ever constructed at an international motor show.
Experienced off-road driving experts will take groups of visitors
around the course in a variety of vehicles supplied by manufacturers.
Features on the off-road course will include water hazards up to two
feet in-depth, side slopes up to a maximum of 35 degrees, deep gravel
tracks, 'elephant feet' terrain consisting of tree trunks placed within
the track and a swamp area up to 18 inches deep. With bridges and
ditches too, this course will certainly be a test for both man and
machine.
Motropolis Live Action Arena
 |
| The
Mini show |
A city
of the future is the setting for the Motropolis Live Action Arena.
A purpose built outdoor theatre will be the stage for a 35- minute
long motoring adventure featuring heroes and villains, chases and
stunts, explosions and fires and cars driven to the the absolute limit.
The whole experience will promise to be like no other live action
performance previously seen at an international motor show.
Taster Test Drive
 |
| The
MG XPower SV-R |
It would
seem logical to assume that any visitor to an international motor
show would be able to test-drive a new car and not just sit and stare.
The
Motor Show Live will become the first major motor show to provide
a test drive in the form of a Taster Test Drive. It is a Taster, because
unlike a traditional 20 minute test drive on a public road, this will
be a shorter experience on a dedicated mile-long circuit set out within
the NEC complex.
It
will provide the driver and passengers with an initial impression
of a new car.
Classic cars come to Birmingham

The Motor
Show Live Classic Car Tour will see as many as 250 classic cars converge
on the NEC.
The
tour is open to all cars of all ages, though preference will be given
to models registered before 1978, the year the NEC first hosted the
British International Motor Show.
The
tour forms part of the drive to make this years show increasingly
interactive, with participants completing 150 mile routes from one
of the five starting points in Cheshire, Derbyshire, Essex, Warwickshire
and Wiltshire.
