Moving to the Mailbox presents a wonderful opportunity for BBC Birmingham to be more visible and accessible to you.

The Mailbox

The BBC will occupy 100,00sq feet of space in the Mailbox on two floors accommodating regional TV and local radio studios, a radio drama studio, edit suites and office space for approx 750 staff. Windows into some of the studios will allow visitors to watch brodcasting in action.

Andy Griffee, BBC Controller, English Regions and Head of the new centre says: "I'm delighted that we are able to throw open the doors of our fantastic 21st century broadcasting facility in the heart of the City where we will be able to welcome in our audiences so they can see what we do first hand."

Getting closer to the BBC

BBC Birmingham's public space in The Mailbox has already attracted thousands of visitors since it opened its doors June 2003.

The space has a café and a BBC shop which stocks a variety of BBC dvds, videos, cassettes, cds and books.

In the future the space will also be used to host a range of special events including BBC's Children In Need, Archers evenings, booksignings, Birmingham's Discovery Day, and smaller events with educational and community groups. Watch out for forthcoming events for 2004.

There are plans for a range of hands on displays and exhibits over two floors, including facilities to interact with BBC WM and the Asian Network as they broadcast live, a CBBC/Cbeebies area, a mock TV studio and much more.

"We're very proud of our new home which represents a massive vote of confidence in the City and the Midlands by the BBC": Andy Griffee.

The public space will allow people more access to BBC Birmingham than ever before.
