Working at Pebble Mill...

I started at Pebble Mill as a secretary in 1977. I also worked at weekends as a volunteer floor assistant in the television studios. I gradually did more work assisting in the studios.

I was lucky to have so many different jobs at Pebble Mill.

All Creatures Great and Small, Pebble Mill at One and Saturday Night at the Mill were just some of the programmes I worked on.

Then I went to work in the newsroom as a station assistant. There, I was a floor manager, where I did sound recording and research work for quite a few years.

I moved onto Midlands Today breakfast news as a presenter and gradually did more and more on the programme. I was lucky to have lots of different jobs at Pebble Mill.

In 2003 I decided to change jobs and started to work for the Mailbox project.

Fond memories of Pebble Mill...

The Mailbox is a fantastic modern looking building, as of course Pebble Mill was when it was first opened - but that was a long time
ago now.
Sue Beardsmore

I've always enjoyed working in the big television studios because it was so exciting. The big drama sets and all the different things going on.

I worked as a floor assistant for the Basil Brush Show the first time round and I remember all his little clothes used to hang in a wardrobe on little rails.

I also remember the early days of Midlands Today when I was a floor manager in the late 70's. It was still a part of Nationwide and the regional parts of the programme used to have lots of animals that would come into the television studios. We had such fun with them during live television.

Moving to the Mailbox ...

I think it will be great in the Mailbox. The public will be able to come in and watch their favourite local radio presenters at work with a special viewing glass straight into the BBC WM and Asian Network studios, go behind the scenes of Midlands Today and visit the BBC Shop.

It will be quite nice to be in the middle of the city and it's a fantastic modern looking building. Of course Pebble Mill was when it first opened, but that was a long time ago now.
