FACTS
Concorde,
the flagship of the British Airways fleet, was the world's
only supersonic passenger aircraft. British Airways is one
of only two airlines operating the delta-wing jet.
Concorde
holds many world records, including fastest crossing of the
Atlantic from New York to London in 2 hours 54 minutes and
45 seconds.
As
the first retired Concorde goes on show at Manchester Airport's
Aviation Viewing Park, another has been disassembled and will be
auctioned off on the 14th to 17th April 2004.
Thousands
waved farewell to Concorde in October last year when she landed at
Birmingham International Airport.
Now she's back in Birmingham, but bagged up in bits and ready to be
sold to the highest bidder.
Six thousand lots are up for grabs. And when it comes to what's going
under the hammer, the skies the limit!
Philip
Cairns, ex BA engineer
We
spoke to Philip Cairns, an ex BA engineer, he worked on Concorde
for about 35 years: "I've got mixed emotions about it all. "Concorde
was a national icon and i'm sad to see it gone. "Its great that
the British public can own a piece."
The viewing's are taking place in a warehouse in Saltley in Birmingham
- before next week's auction at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.
