Welcome the Chinese New Year of the Monkey
This year the Chinese community welcomed the Year of the Monkey at the city’s celebrations at the Arcadian Centre, Hurst Street, on Sunday January 25th 2004.

FACTS

Chinese New Year or the 'Spring Festival' is the oldest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar.

January 22nd 2004 is the first day in the Year of the Monkey. It is Year 4701 by Chinese calendar.

Wish someone good fortune and a happy new year by saying ' Kung Hei Fat Choi'.

The sound of firecrackers and the Lion Dance started the celebrations in Birmingham's Chinese Quarter, followed by entertainment including Cantonese Opera performance, children’s dance from the Overseas Chinese Association Society and a saxophone performance.

Other entertainment included acrobatics, comedy and a martial arts demonstration, with Chinese karaoke performers on stage.
