Cat
Cathryn Gorski

Cathryn:
Cathryn Gorski (from the production team of 'Evil Resident'), managed to get last minute flights to Cannes, and became Mark’s PA, pitching coach and cameraman for the Cannes video diary.

"I’ve been to some glamorous places in my time; Miami, New Orleans, Wolverhampton… but when I heard that a film I helped to make was on at the Cannes Film Festival, I did what any girl would do – broke into my piggy bank and headed for the glamour capital of the world. Well, you have to, don’t you?"

Day 1:
Arrived early for registration and hurried to the UK Film Centre in the International Village; impressive tent-like structures, with air conditioning and free bar, essential in Cannes weather.

Mark
Mark - pitching

Given only short notice, Mark came up with a pitch totally different from anything they’d seen before.

He started playing the blues on his harmonica ("let me tell you a story… sad but true…") which got everyone clapping and cheering.

It was a great success, his pitch was shortlisted to the final three, with potential interest in development.

While Mark was still on a high from his nerve-wracking pitch, we strolled past the Palais des Festival, the enormous 2000-seater cinema with obligatory red carpet where stars pose for the cameras.

Spotted Steven Spielberg and wife outside the Carlton hotel. (If it wasn’t them, they were damn good lookie-likies!)

Later went for dinner and saw Elton John with his minder, probably shopping for shoes (at 10pm?!) Think he was in town for Liz Taylor’s party.

Day 2:
Ran the gauntlet of security guards to catch the end of 'Evil Resident' being shown on the big screen.

Just time to get more footage for the video diary, do some shopping and head home. It was a whistle-stop tour, stressful at times, but a real adventure.

Mark :
Cannes was a fab experience, I won a bursary from Screen West Midlands to attend and came runner up in the first ever UK pitching session.

The session was a bit like 'Producer Idol' - at stake was a 7k development deal.

Although I didn't win I did make contact with a top writer who liked my pitch, and an American financer who is interested in the project.
Cannes gave me a chance to network, socialise and meet all the key players.
