FACTS

In 1958, 50% of the British population still ate bacon and eggs every day for breakfast - by 1976, that figure had reduced to 18%.

The first pot of marmalade was made in 1741 by the wife of a Dundee trader. An expert jam-maker, she made it when her husband was sent a consignment of bitter oranges by mistake from Spain.

1,647 million bowls of Corn Flakes are eaten every year in the UK. That's 4 million bowls a day.

The Full English Breakfast has to be one of, if not the best meal in the world. But few of us eat it now, preferring a croissant, yoghurt or just toast and coffee. And who has time to make it and eat it anyway? Not to mention the calories....

How do you like yours?

But you can't beat a good fry up. Crispy bacon, runny fried eggs, mushrooms, sausages, grilled tomato, yummy fried bread, black pudding and baked beans. Have I missed anything out? Oh and of course, fresh orange juice, toast and marmalade and hot tea to wash it all down with. Delicious. And no one else does it quite like the English.

Toast
Toast was voted the nation's third favourite breakfast.
BBC Food is doing a survey to find out exactly what is the nations favourite food (see weblinks). In the category for breakfast, the nation has voted the Full English Breakfast its favourite food in a poll by BBC Food.

Second came cereal, and third was toast. Many people just have coffee for breakfast - it was voted fourth.
