FACTS

Christian Aid's purpose is to expose the scandal of poverty and to contribute to its eradication. The organisation strives to be prophetic, challenging the systems and processes that work against the interests of those who are poor or marginalized.

Christian Aid has also developed over the decades into one of the UK's forefront campaigning agencies, challenging the 'rules' about poverty and working towards changing the way people are kept poor by world systems that benefit the wealthy.

Christian Aid has a central office in Waterloo, London and a network of local offices around the country.

The office in Birmingham City Centre serves the four counties of Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

Visitors are welcome...

There are six staff who work together to resource local supporters and churches by supplying a wide range of campaigning, worship and fundraising materials - by visiting churches, schools and other groups to talk about the work of Christian Aid, and many other activities.

The office is based in Carrs Lane Church Centre, (opposite Marks & Spencer) and we always welcome visitors who want to know more or want to pick up some resources. We have a wide range of materials, most of which are free.

Christian Aid Week...

Picture: Christian Aid

The period from February to May is always busy for many Christian Aid supporters, as they prepare for Christian Aid Week, 9-15 May. The UK's largest door-to-door collection is held across the country, with around 350,000 people helping to deliver and collect the little red envelopes. Last year the week raised over £14 million!

Christian Aid Week could not happen without the work of these collectors and the church representatives and organisers who co-ordinate the collections.

Across the region there are around 250 local volunteer "committees" which range from being one person organising a collection or event in one church, to a group of 15 people doing the same for 20 churches.

Making a change...

Picture: Christian Aid

Christian Aid recognises that change will only come about as a movement is built of individuals who are committed to a better world for all. Bringing their faith, talents and energy, their influence, gifts and their actions, to achieve what should surely be possible.

This is why we are so priviledged to work with a wide range of volunteers who willingly give their time to support the work of Christian Aid.
