Butterfly Fan The Inferno are Paul Collins, Jase Holgate, John Kelly and Tony Wilkinson.

But they weren't always.

Founding member John put together the original incarnation four years ago - on the American east coast.

"Yeah, that's where the first line-up came together," he said. "In Boston in 2006. We played gigs there for about a year and recorded a few times. But like everyone's life, there's all sorts of over-lapping threads. It just turned out that by that time - 2007, 2008 - I was coming to the end of my time over there. So I was looking to get back to the UK to set up again."

John moved to Birmingham and went looking for new members to relaunch BFTI.

But why Brum?

"I suppose there were a few factors," he said. "A good friend of mine, a long time creative sparring partner was living here. I've always been an avid metal fan since I was a young lad. I loved Black Sabbath and knew a few of the lads from Zeppelin, Judas Priest and the like. I just wanted to come where there'd be musicians and Birmingham has a metallic history in many ways."

Once the new band members were found, Butterfly Fan The Inferno played their first gig at the Birmingham Academy in August 2008 - and have toured the West Midlands ever since.

Thursdays 10pm - midnight on 95.6FM

They performed live on BBC WM Introducing on 15th October 2009, playing versions of tracks 'Soulsearcher', 'Man Of The Sea', 'Icoma' and 'Mutineer'.
