It will open in Mell Square on Saturday 28th November to coincide with the town's Chistmas light switch on.

Authentic German foods, wines and crafts are expected to be sold on a range of stalls that will trade throughout the day. Full details will be announced soon.

For the last eight years, Birmingham has hosted the world's largest authentic German Christmas market outside Austria or Germany. It has evolved into one of the city's main attractions during the festive season, with millions visiting each year.

A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said:

"We wish Solihull luck with their German market. Our own market is now world famous and last year attracted a record breaking 2.8 million visitors, boosting the city's economy to the tune of £67 million. Hopefully the Solihull market will also benefit."

Birmingham's Frankfurt Market returns on Thursday 12th November 2009 and runs until Wednesday 23rd December.
