The results saw Labour relegated into third place in the region - winning just one of six seats available in the Euro Elections. The UK Independence Party capitalised on Labour's loss, winning two seats, as did the Conservative Party. The Liberal Democrats took one. Tories Phillip Bradbourn and Malcolm Harbour were elected. UKIP's Mike Nattrass and Nikki Sinclaire, Lib Dem Liz Lynne and Labour's Michael Cashman also made it to Brussels. The BBC's Midlands' Political Correspondent Patrick Burns told BBC WM's Phil Upton @ Breakfast that despite a disastrous national showing for Labour, the West Midlands actually bucked the trend somewhat in voting patterns: ![]() "The very interesting thing actually is that there was a major crumb of comfort for the Labour Party which completely bucked the trend in comparison to the rest of the country in the major metropolitan areas of the West Midlands. "In Birmingham, Labour actually polled 54,000 votes which was 9,000 more than the Conservatives and there were similar pictures in Wolverhampton and Sandwell. That is one thing that stands out for Labour but generally an absolutely disastrous night. "It means that Nina Gill - who has been the Labour MEP in the outgoing Parliament - loses here seat in effect. Michael Cashman is now a solo flyer for the Labour Party in the European Parliament for the West Midlands."
