BBC WM's 'Flab to Fab'- The launch

During the week starting Monday 6th July BBC WM is promoting healthy eating and is encouraging people to fight obesity. Be part of it!

BBC WM's 'Flab to Fab' campaign aims to raise awareness of the main contributors that cause obesity. People in the West Midlands are amongst the fattest in the country with more and more primary school aged children becoming obese.

BBC WM's Flab to Fab broadcasting will include:

Monday 6th July-Are we the fattest we've ever been?

BBC WM's Flab to Fab campaign launches on the Breakfast show, with Daz Hale standing in for Phil Upton ( from 6.30am-9am). Daz will be having his body fat tested.

Joanne Malin (from 9.30-12) will be asking what has your weight stopped you doing? and she will be looking at the harsh realities of obesity.

Ed Doolan (12noon to 2pm ) will be exploring the financial strain that can be caused by obesity. Ed will be asking What rights does the large consumer have? eg: are airline seats big enough? Are your chances of getting a job reduced?

Danny Kelly (from 2-4pm) Undersize me!  Danny will be launching his campaign to live off the healthy options from fast food restaurants all week - how much weight will he lose?

Paul Franks (from 4pm-7pm) will be put through his paces by a fitness trainer.

Tuesday 7th July- Why are our children so fat?

Phil Upton @breakfast will be finding out about a weight loss programme for children in the Black Country.

Joanne Malin will be sharing her experience of being in a fat suit for a day. See her like you've never seen her before at www.bbc.co.uk/wm.

Ed Doolan will be asking whose to blame for the state of our children?

Danny Kelly will be taking a look at Sleep disorders and obesity: how loud does Danny snore? All will be revealed.

Paul Franks will be tucking into a school dinner at Light Hall school in Shirley and he'll be finding out what kids are really eating.

Wednesday 8th July-How do you lose that weight?

Phil Upton @breakfast will be exploring the issue of dramatic weight loss. Hear from somebody who has had a gastric band fitted.

Joanne Malin will be meeting the woman who has had a baby after being fitted with a gastric band-despite being told that it was impossible.

Ed Doolan will be debating who should pay for the fall out of the obesity epidemic?  Should the tax payer fork out for gastric bands?

Danny Kelly will be getting back to his chef roots, and cooking off against a professional chef. An expert will judge on who's produced the healthiest option.

Paul Franks will be asking what's the ideal time for your evening meal?  Is it a myth that you shouldn't eat late?

Thursday 9th July- Obesity and the Asian Community

Phil Upton @breakfast will be finding out about an Asian women's cooking class. They have been educated about nutrition and losing weight.The Asian community now has the highest level of diabetes and other obesity related problems. 

Joanne Malin speaks to overweight couples who were brought together by their weight issues.

Ed Doolan will be debating with key figures in the Asian community and restaurant scene about food and weight issues.

Danny Kelly will be training with Wolves Football Club.

Paul Franks will be finding out how curries can actually be healthy.

Friday 10th July- How can we prevent being fat?

Phil Upton @breakfast will be meeting the obese mother who doesn't want her newborn baby to end up like her.

Joanne will be finding out about the driving instructor who's lost four stone. It can be done!

We'll be finding out what's inside Ed Doolan's fridge!

Paul Franks will be shaking his hips and getting fit- as he is joined by a line dancing group.

Sunday 11th July

BBC WM's Midlands Masala show (from 10pm-1am) will round the week off by taking a look at the differences in obesity between the Asian community living here and that in South Asia (i:e India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka).
