Obama's historic day

Millions are expected to watch Barack Obama take the oath of office on Tuesday 20th January 2009.

For black people in particular, the election of Obama is a poignant moment in their history.  American civil rights movement leader Martin Luther King delivered his famous 'I have a dream' speech in 1963, and many feel that on Tuesday 4th November 2008 part of that vision came true.

Take a look at what Birmingham's black community thought about Obama's historic win.

My family and I will be celebrating the full circle of Martin Luther Kings dream. We will also be thinking of the fact that my life was saved 50 odd years ago by a Black American Doctor who was in UK on holiday. He took time out from his well earned break to work in hospital here to save my life with his then unique skills, at a time in both USA and UK when segregation and racism was at an all time high. He rose above this and didn't care what colour or faith I was . He just saw a baby dying from a rarely curable condition.he operated on me and I am still alive to bear witness and give thanks to his humanity. My thoughts go to those immortal words uttered by Martin Luther King..free at last, free at last.. God Almighty we are free at last. Barack's election isn't just about the freedom of the Black Community it is about liberation of the whole of mankind to a higher form of humanity. God speed and give Barack the strength to do what is needed.
