The late Chief Minister of Birmingham's Jewish Community, Rabbi Tann, who was well known across the country for his work in interfaith was remembered on Sunday 11th January 2009 at a service at Singers Hill Synagogue. ![]() Alex Jacobs, Roger Tann and Rabbi Yossi Jacobs Charity memorialJNF West Midlands launched a special appeal for the memory of Rabbi Dr Leonard Tann who died in November 2007. The Jewish community felt that the most appropriate way to remember him was by launching a project, that truly reflected his ideology, that of charity. He had been a great supporter of local charities such as The Acorns Hospice but also the JNF (Jewish National Fund) and Magen David Adom (Israel's Ambulance Service). ![]() At Singer's Hill Synagogue The Rabbi Dr Leonard Tann ProjectJNF West Midlands chose to pay tribute to the community leader through a very special project 'The Rabbi Dr Leonard Tann Project' which started in January 2008. The Project was successfully completed in January 2009, it has included hundreds of trees being planted in various forests in Israel, including The Singers Hill Groves and the Robert Plotnek Grove, together with contributions to Hazon Yeshaya (The Soup Kitchens) and The Fire Engine Project following fundraising by the community. ![]() Synagogue memorial congregation Sefer TorahsIn addition, funds raised have led to two Sefer Torahs being purchased. They will be hand delivered by local JNF representative, Ruth Jacobs next Sunday. The Torahs will start a new life at The Joulty Children's House and Sadmat Gal (a day centre for traumatised veterans), both units at the Tel Hashomer Hospital. ![]() In memory of Rabbi Tann "It was great to see Irene and Roger Tann along with the community to conclude the project in Birmingham before the 'new start' in Israel" said Ruth Jacobs, JNF West Midlands.
