How prepared are you?
Do you know what to do in the event of a flood or other emergency? BBC WM's 'What if...' campaign offers some useful advice and contact points.
What if flood water was lapping at your front door? What if there was a chemical leak and you needed to evacuate your home in the middle of the night?
Would you know what to do?
What about your family and friends who live away – maybe due to work or university? Perhaps you have elderly parents in another part of the country or a vulnerable neighbour down the street. Could they cope during an emergency?
BBC WM's 'What If...' campaign ran in January 2009 on the Ed Doolan show.
For three days Ed spoke to a panel of experts from the Local Emergency Planning Departments, Police, Fire, Medical and Utility Services and the Environment Agency and Met Office.
They offered advice on what to do in the event of a range of disasters including power cuts, loss of water, breakdown in communication services such as telephones, flu epidemics and chemical spillage.
We have compiled a list of useful websites for you in the event of an emergency.
Whilst we can't prepare for every eventuality, these sites offer invaluable advice on what to in an emergency, from house fire to terrorist threat.

Below are links to a quick checklist so you can see how well you're prepared to cope with an emergency. There are also links to a few PDF documents providing some of the information available about preparing things like 'grab bags' in case you need to get out of your home in a hurry.
