Unsigned bands play for chance of a lifetime
The national final of the Surface Unsigned competition happens at the Carling Academy on Saturday 13th September 2008. The winning band gets to play at the largest music show in Europe.

Surface Unsigned is a national organisation offering new bands from around the country the chance to showcase their talents in front of a panel of experts, including The Charlatans' drummer Jon Brookes.
Over 1,200 groups from Birmingham, Manchester and London applied to take part in the battle-of-the-bands style competition.
After four months and dozens of gigs around the country, the final 14 bands will battle it our at the all day event at the Carling Academy, which kicks off at 11.30am and runs until 10pm.
Sponsorship and cash prizes await the runners-up; the winning 'Band of the Festival' though will have the chance to perform on the grand stage at the Birmingham NEC's Music Live event in November.
Speaking live on BBC WM Introducing, organiser of Surface Unsigned Jay Mitchell said:

"We're really over the moon with the quality of bands this year and it's going to be a fantastic day for everyone involved. We've have industry guests from all over the country coming. The idea is to provide the bands as many opportunities as we can - they will get seen by some very influential people.
"The winning band will walk away with a prime-time slot at the Music Live event which takes place over 7th and 9th of November at the NEC. It's the largest music show in Europe and they'll be playing on the main stage."
