The Dangerous Ideas Tour Birmingham was an initiative of the Radical Middle Way project in partnership with Lozells Youth Integration Project and Aerosol Arabic.

Featuring cutting-edge hip hop, rap and spoken word poetry from the US, UK and Africa, the goal of the Dangerous Ideas tour was to inspire young people, particularly from disadvantage communities, to become agents of positive change in their communities.

Peace + Love + Justice, the tour said, were the really dangerous ideas that change the world: from the Prophets to the Dalai Lama, it is by embracing these ideas that positive social change happens.

By showcasing the best of Muslim musical culture, the Radical Middle Way is encouraging young Muslims to express their ideas, hopes and vision through the arts.

Headliner Amir Sulaiman, who has worked with American hip hop stars like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, KRS-One and the Last Poets, lead a magnificent group of performers, both women and men, who gave voice to contemporary Muslim experience in a unique and challenging way.

By placing female performance at the very heart of the tour's vision, RMW, Lozells YIP and Aerosol Arabic were making a powerful statement about the critical need for a public space for Muslim women to express themselves.

Finally, by including Scholar-Activists like Imam Johari Abdul Malik from the US and Shaykh Michael Mumisa from Cambridge, youth expression was supported by voices of religious scholarship emphasizing how Islamic values call young people to commit themselves to mercy and public service for all.
