Science of Spirituality in Birmingham

Members of the Birmingham wing of Science of Spirituality tell us about their organisation, plans to build a Meditation centre and an upcoming event.

Compiled by Young Adults from Science of Spirituality in Birmingham:

Science of Spirituality is a global, not-for-profit spiritual organisation under the leadership of Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj.

We are people of all nationalities, races and faiths deeply committed to a spiritual way of life based on meditation, service to others, and personal transformation. Science of Spirituality international headquarters are in Delhi, India and in Naperville, USA. There are also many other centres all around the world.

Birmingham

In Birmingham, Science of Spirituality has been established for several years. It is a registered charity in the UK. Local gatherings called satsangs take place regularly here. This is where those who wish to follow the path, can come together to learn about ethical virtues as well as the practice of meditation.

The satsangs feature short lectures, readings, the playing of audio and video tapes and short meditation sittings, followed by a free luncheon. People of all faiths and backgrounds are most welcome. Satsang Meetings in Birmingham take place every second and forth Sunday of the month between 11am - 1pm at the Apollo Hotel on the Hagley Road.

Our group has a large number of young adults and we are actively involved in organising fundraising events, outreach work, special events, sports activities, day trips and performance productions involving the use of music, dance and drama. We also arrange meditation retreats and attend special Science of Spirituality events abroad.

Our goals

These can be summarised by three words:

Spirituality

All scriptures declare this to be life's supreme purpose and achievement. True and lasting happiness comes only when we reclaim our nature as spiritual beings.

Peace

By this we mean inner peace-the deep and abiding calm that is born of a conscious connection with God

Service

We mean service to ourselves through nurturing our own inner awakening.

Our vision

Our aim is to build a unique Meditation Centre in the City of Birmingham. Judging by the successful response so far, we hope that this vision will soon become a reality. Meanwhile we are pleased that our fortnightly classes are attracting many people.
