Musical Message of Peace for Islam
Muslims are not terrorists - that is the message behind a new CD compiled by Birmingham music supremo Barry Tomes.
Muslim Writers Forum, CD cover
Fifty year old Barry Tomes is not a Muslim and has no connection to any Muslim Groups. He is a devoute Christian and record producer based in Birmingham.
Tired of the negative perceptions of Islam, Barry decided he was going to fight the prejudice he believes Muslims are facing, and make a difference through the power of music.
Birmingham Central Mosque
Barry approached Muslim artists and asked them for a musical contribution to a CD he wanted to release. The ‘Muslim Writers Forum’ is a ten track CD consisting of a variety of different songs by Muslim and non-Muslim artists. It aims to show Islam as a peaceful religion.
The cover features Birmingham's very own Central Mosque. Barry has pressed 1000 copies of the CD and it is being offered for free.
The CD has had an encouraging response, says Barry. It has generated interest from people all over the world from Muslims to non-Muslims, and from the USA all the way across to China.
Khaliq, an artist featured in the CD
Barry's hopes of changing people's perceptions about the Muslim community go further than this CD. He will soon be releasing a full album by Muslim artist Khaliq who featured on the CD. He is also looking into the possibility of putting the CD's artists together for a string of live performances.
The CD is available to download for free from the Muslim Writers Forum at wgic.co.uk/forum/
