Danger! Gulaam Fatima

Danger! Gulaam Fatima!

Storytelling by Muslim women about a heroic superwoman in hijab. Performances of poetry, spoken word and song.

Danger! Gulaam Fatima! is storytelling by Muslim women about a heroic superwoman in hijab.  She rescues women from bad situations only to find herself in similar places along the way.

Danger! Gulaam Fatima

The tale of a Muslim superhero

The performance is in poetry, spoken word and song.  In Danger! Gulaam Fatima! the characters in the story go on a journey where they get lost, grow up and get rescued.

Ulfah Arts

This is a first work from new artists who have been brought together by Ulfah Arts, mentored by Shamshad Khan (Performance poet), Black Voices (acapella legends!) and directed by Kate Hale (Foresight Theatre).

Naz Koser Director of Ulfah Arts said: "Ulfah Arts is delighted that it has enabled Muslim women to engage in the Arts, developing concepts that can bring Muslims and everyday audiences together. This performance is ground breaking for this reason.  We hope this is the start to a positive and creative exchange between faith and arts."

Satirical, spiritual, poetic and political

Danger! Gulaam Fatima! set will also include performances by poet Shamshad Khan and Black Voices. From the satirical to the spiritual, from the poetic to the political, Shamshad will perform from her new collection Megalomaniac. Occasionally you'll hear a sound, a voice, a song and it satisfies deep inside. Black Voices will raise you off the ground and remind you what it means to be alive.

Performances:

4 March 2008 Bantock House, Wolverhampton, at 7.30pm

6 March 2008 Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton at 1pm

13 March 2008 Midlands Art Centre (MAC), Birmingham at 8pm
