The nominations have been announced for this year's BBC Midlands Sports Awards – with newly crowned World Amateur Boxing Champion Frankie Gavin among those in the frame, along with international sports stars like Aston Villa and England footballer and heptathlete Kelly Sotherton.

The fifteen Awards will be presented at a glittering ceremony, hosted by BBC Midlands Today’s Nick Owen, at the National Motorcycle Museum on Sunday 2nd December.

This year's event is the fifth to be staged by the BBC in the Midlands and is being sponsored by Land Rover and University Sport Birmingham.

Voting lines for the BBC Midlands Sports Personality of the Year have now closed – so now it's a case of waiting for the winner to be revealed. Previous winners have been Women's World Darts Champion Trina Gulliver (2003), Paralympic Dressage rider Lee Pearson (2004), Warwickshire and England cricketer Ashley Giles (2005) and last year, the 13 times World Darts Champion Phil "The Power" Taylor.
