From the German market to the street ice rink and the canal boat parade - there's something for everyone in Birmingham this Christmas.

Frankfurt Market – Thursday 15th November – Sunday 23rd December

One of the largest Christmas craft fairs in the world returns to Birmingham, offering a great range of Christmas gift ideas and German food and drink.

Over 90 stalls will spiral out from Victoria Square and this year some of the hot food and drink stands will be based in Centenary Square next to the T-mobile Ice Rink to give skaters some warm nourishment.

The largest temporary ice rink in the UK returns to Birmingham for more ice skating fun for all the family.

This year Street Ice will also offer festive ice-side entertainment as the Frankfurt Christmas Market's finest bars and food stalls will be setting up shop along side the ice rink. They'll be serving warming drinks and wintry specialties to you and your mates throughout the day and night, all with a great view of the on-ice action.

Broad Street Canal Boat Light Parade – Sunday 9th December

Last year thousands braved the cold winter air to watch the beautiful parade of canal boats sail from the NIA to The Mailbox and more of the same is expected this year.

BBC WM will there in force offering commentary and a panel of judges will award prizes for the best boats. Brindleyplace will host a range of events after the parade including live music and a Santa's sleigh. The parade begins at 5.30pm from the NIA and is scheduled to last until roughly 6.15pm.

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery Nativity Art Trail – throughout  December

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is putting the spirit of Christmas at the centre of its activities.

Canal boat parade

Visitors will be able to enjoy the free trail which will take them through the museum highlighting great masterworks in the city’s collections from the last 500 years.

Examples include depictions of the Holy Family as seen through the eyes of great artists including the Birmingham born Pre-Raphaelite Edward Burne Jones and Flemish and Italian Masters including Gentileschi and Castiglione.

There will also be a Victorian Christmas event, craft activities and a Nativity Trail.
