The rain hardly stopped all day, the carnival parade didn't quite happen and the schedule had to be re-jigged, but no one cared. ![]() A drummer at the festival It was all about having fun and soaking up a little Latin American culture. The entertainment took place mainly in Victoria Square with music, dancing, crafts and Latin American food and drink. There was also a photographic exhibition showing the history of previous festivals. This marked the 15th year of the Latin American Festival in Birmingham. ![]() Playing to the crowds There was an impressive line-up of musicians and dancers, including the Colombian Salsa World Champions Swing Latino and the 2007 World Federation Salsa Champions Ricardo Murillo and Viviana Vargas. The Funki Feather Girls and Oi Brazil managed to raise the temperature of the crowd and a tribute to the Brazilian icon Carmen Miranda also proved popular. Founder and festival organiser Annie Bazán-De-Fisher had obviously worked extremely hard to bring some of the best talent connected with the Latin American scene to Birmingham. ![]() A tribute to Carmen Miranda And for those who still had a little energy left, there was partying into the night with a Latin Festival Celebration party at Ipanema on Broad Street.
