Birmingham Pride '07

A splash of colour brightened up a very wet Birmingham, as The Gay Pride Festival hit the city over Bank Holiday weekend.

It was wet and the weather miserable, but it certainly wasn't going to dampen the spirit at the Gay Pride Festival.

The festival took place over the Bank Holiday weekend. We caught up with events during the Mardi Gras Parade on Sunday.

The parade weaved through the city from Victoria Square, making it's way to the Gay Village in Hurst Street. It took just over an hour.

Mardi Gras magic

The crowds packed the route; some shoppers just watching and enjoying the parade, some wondering what was going on, and others had come to the city especially for the event.

The parade had a true carnival feel and delighted the thousands of people watching.

As it made it's way to the Gay Village area the pitch stepped up another level, and the high volume party atmosphere filled the air.

The parade was just one part of the festival. Throughout the Bank Holiday weekend there was entertainment, acts, a funfair, an art exhibition and various market stalls.

Weekend of events

Over the Bank Holiday weekend there was also the Lord Mayors Show at Cannon Hill Park, as well as The Fierce Festival and a Puppet Festival. If you've been out and about, let us know where you've been and send in your pictures to; birmingham@bbc.co.uk
