The Opening Party, hosted by Mrs Barbara Nice (18th May) For the pimping of the Cotton Club, volunteers arrived to help set up from noon to 6pm. Unfortunately there was nobody around to tell anyone what to do! The resulting confusion led to an excess of coffee, a race of hands in constant motion stuffing flyers, sweets and sparkles into goody bags and a strange odyssey to locate an iron for the performers.

We were then encouraged to gossip about Hollywood stars to get the performers in the mood for the launch! Doing these mundane tasks can make work as a volunteer a bit dull, but such is the nature of the beast! Laura Dexter? No it's Paris Hilton if you don't mind! Despite the minor setbacks the party was a huge success, drawing in a big mix of top ‘celebrities’, including myself aka Paris Hilton. Being interviewed on a red carpet on my way into the party was definitely a first and I have to grudgingly admit was quite good fun. The interviews with the would be ‘celebs’ were broadcast upstairs, echoing the paparazzi feel of the event at the entrance.

Dancing soon begun as the DJ’s got the night into a dandy mood. The whole bar was buzzing with anticipation as the Hostess Mrs Barbara Nice took to the stage and then…. I had to leave (to invigilate a play)!!! It's a hard life being a volunteer! Blog 2 Laura finds out that it's not easy dealing with creative people, but it's worth it! |
