Whatever Happened to Pete Blaggit? is the new film from Wolverhampton director Mark Jeavons. Filmed entirely in Birmingham the movie stars Rob Leetham and former Coronation Street actor Adam Rickitt.

The story follows the mid-life crisis of Pete Blaggit, a wedding photographer with a fiery temper who's perception of life changes after he is abducted by aliens. "All the locations were Birmingham based - in and around the city centre," says Mark. "Birmingham has some great locations so it was an obvious choice for filming." "Everyone was fantastic. A lot of the crew were from Birmingham and they gave up a lot of their time to get everything done." The film touches on many genres - romance, drama and science fiction - but Mark sees the script's humour as being the overwhelming theme. "I kind of see it as a comedy film. I suppose it's a bit like Donnie Darko but with more of a comedy element."

Much of the humour comes from the main character's alien experience. Was this based on any real life events? "No," laughs Mark. "I haven't been abducted by aliens. Yet." The film should see a release later this year, hitting theatres and getting a DVD release, but in the meantime you can check out the film trailer on YouTube by clicking the link at the top right of this page. |
