Comic Relief's Dominga De La Cruz: "We really need as many people as possible there on the day to help us break this world record. It would be helpful to us if you can send in a sign-up sheet to pre-register by Monday 12th March. Don't forget - every participant gets a free goody bag!"

On Red Nose Day, Friday 16th March 2007 from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm, the Comic Relief Midlands team (based at BBC Birmingham) are organising an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest contra line dance.

The world record is currently held by Anstruther - a small town in Scotland, who had 875 people dancing in a line for more than five minutes in 2003.

So, Comic Relief want 1000 people to come to Centenary Square in Birmingham on Red Nose Day to set a new world record. Comic Relief's Dominga De La Cruz says:

"You don’t need to be an expert – we will have professionals showing us the steps on the day. It costs just £3 to take part, ALL of which goes to Comic Relief.  BBC Big Screen will be filming the event live, and BBC TV ‘Midlands Today’ presenter Nick Owen will be donning his sexiest line dancing gear to help us kick off the attempt.

"We need YOU to come and help us smash the world record!"
