There are 50mph speed restrictions on Central Trains with expected delays and alterations at short notice. Chiltern Trains has also reduced its services between Birmingham and London Marylebone to one train per hour. At Birmingham New Street station rail staff used megaphones to give out passenger information and police kept hundreds of passengers away from the ticket barriers. BBC employee Robin Hamman became stuck at New Street as he tried to make his way from St Albans to Manchester. He told BBC News Online: "From time to time someone shouts out a platform number and all the people for that destination rush towards the ticket barrier. But, the departure boards mainly show apologies for the delays." |
