An interview with DJ Ayo
 | | Spinning the decks |
Lorraine Dixon has been a church minister for 17 years, but instead of performing the usual weddings, funerals and baptisms; Lorraine (aka DJ Ayo) performs at club nights across the city spinning decks, playing deep, funky and soulful dance music which speaks of faith, hope, peace and love. Fusing her love of urban grooves and her Christian faith, DJ Ayo is a real 'minister of sound'. Lorraine explains: "There's still a space for traditional Christianity, but I'm trying to reach out to those who are turned off by traditional Sunday morning church services with traditional hymns and prayers.
 | | Seeking God in the groove |
"I want to connect with people that find being in a club at 3am on a Saturday or Sunday morning a spiritual experience. Encountering God in the funk... "It's a big surprise for people seeing a vicar as a club DJ, but the connection I have with the clubbers is a shared passion for music. "As a minister club DJ I can bond with like minded people who are at different points on their spiritual journey trying to connect with God through their love for music. "God can meet with us wherever we are.
