Help playing audio/video A recent piece of work carried out by Aston University students looking at the profile of night workers in Birmingham revealed some startling characteristics. ![]() A group of final year undergraduate students from Aston University investigated aspects of night work and health in Birmingham. They interviewed café workers, cleaners, post, rail and market workers among others contributing to the insight on night worker characteristics and lifestyles. As part of the research they produced a 10 minute piece of radio and submitted it to Your Space at BBC WM. They based their Your Space narrative on a daily commute to work where no night work has been carried out in Birmingham City centre. The aim of this piece is to raise public awareness of night workers valuable contributions to the wider public and to provide a communication forum between them. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites Black Country PodcastingLawrence Hipkiss submitted a Your Space Show called Black Country Podcasting. Help playing audio/video Lawrence creates a regular podcast from his own studio in the West Midlands. His podcasts cover a variety of subject matters including Black Country heritage, culture and performers. In this show for BBC WM's Your Space Lawrence enlists the help of his friend Ed Tudor to perform 'Enoch Arden', a poem written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson (published in 1864). Help playing audio/video Get involved with "Your Space"Individuals, communities, artists and students with a West Midlands connection can submit ideas for "Your Space". Originally broadcast on BBC WM every Sunday night, "Your Space" is now hosted on the BBC WM website. The programmes produced include the broadest possible range of material, so you can be creative, unconventional, or just be yourself – ALL ideas are welcome. Previous radio experience is not essential. However, submissions from existing community radio projects are encouraged, as is pre-produced material. Once a programme or feature idea has been selected, technical and production support can be provided by BBC WM where required.
