Birmingham Christmas Lights switch on

The countdown to Christmas officially began on Saturday 11th November 2006 when Simon Webbe switched on Birmingham's Christmas lights.

Singer Simon Webbe switched on Birmingham's Christmas lights on Saturday 11th November 2006 to mark the start of the festive season.

A spectacular fireworks display

Birmingham City Council estimates that over 30,000 people partied for over four hours, culminating with a spectacular fireworks display and the annual switch on.

Families and friends of all ages were treated to a free concert that included performances from McFly and Ocean Colour Scene, fair ground rides and all manner of stores selling hot food and drinks.
