A bull wears the trousers in this shopping centre
I got jeans! Show me Broad Street!

Big, bronzed and in blue jeans

The Bullring’s famous bull played its part in a national appeal to raise funds for research into genetic disorders.

Along with thousands of people across the UK, the Bullring's bronze bull wore jeans to mark Jeans for Genes day, on Friday 6th October 2006. It's an annual event organised by four national charities.

The humans who took part threw out the usual dress rules on Friday, wore jeans to work or school and donated cash to support children with genetic disorders.  The organisers aim to raise £4 million.

The bull’s trousers have a 234 inch waist and are made of 18.5 metres of denim, said clothes designer Maurice Whittingham from Kingstanding.

Maurice worked for free for 10 days at his shop ‘Me’ in the Custard Factory, to put together the attention grabbing garment. It's the largest pair of jeans he has ever created.

“It was just another charity to me until I started talking to the Jeans for Genes people – then I realised what a good cause it is.” said Maurice.

“The bull’s jeans will go back into my cupboard - I haven’t a clue what I’ll do with them next.”
