Birmingham beach ball!

In Victoria Square, as you may have noticed, there's lots of sand with a net stretched across it and a stand for spectators. Visit this weekend to see some top beach volleyball players competing, complete with music and cheerleaders.

Beach volleyball is on its first ever UK-wide ‘Urban Beach Tour’.

To promote the sport in Birmingham, over 200 tonnes of sand were shipped into Victoria Square in the city centre on August 3rd 2006, to create a beach volleyball court.

Gracing the sand in Birmingham will be local teams and the country’s top-ranking players.

The final part of a local competition takes place in the Victoria Square court on Saturday the 5th, from 9:00 – 12:00.

Then, some of the UK’s top ranked beach volleyball players compete in the UK Grand Prix, in Victoria Square, on Saturday from 12:00 – 20:30 and Sunday, from 10:30 – 18:00.

Luis Torres will be the announcer at the tournament and there will be live music and cheerleaders.

Cost? It's free for spectators.
