No sooner had the Off The Bench team been given permission to get completely lashed to drown the sorrows of a season that saw the biggest pile of pants since washday chez Goliath, they were dragged from the bar, slapped around the face with a clammy kipper and told to produce a series for the World Cup.
So now, fully sobered up, BBC WM says "Guten Tag" to the return of the Off The Bench franchise, as the original's long-lost, very distant, probably illegitimate, cousin - WORLD CUP OFF THE BENCH – hits the air on Monday 5th June. Dan Wheeler and friends are back to chew all the irreverent fat from the Fatherland during this summer's World Cup in Germany with some new and some not-so-new features. We've hired our very own football psychiatrist, Dr Heinrich Srin-Krapped to help solve fans' and players' worries and problems in The Magic Sponge. We follow the fortunes of Team America throughout the tournament with our very own bone fide Yankee reporter in Uncle Sam's Soccer Spotlight.
