The 14th Latin American Festival

Grab your Cuban heels and celebrate the music and dance of Latin American at a free festival in the city centre.

The most popular annual Latin event in Birmingham is here again! The 14th Latin American Festival is on Sunday 2nd July at Victoria Square, Birmingham  from 11.00 til 6.00 pm and is free to the public.

Brazilian Carnival Parade

The festival begins with a Samba  Brazilian Carnival Style Parade in the city centre lead by Muvuca Samba Band and the fabulous and colourful Funki Feathers Samba Dancers.

This year’s performers also include Swing Latino with their sensational show from Columbia, Afro-Peruvian music and dance group Manos Negras and the unique style of Latin Fiesta Salsa Band.

The parade will start at Pavilions,  through New Street, ending at Victoria Square.  Everyone is invited to join the parade which will finish with a Samba Carnival Dance Show.

Dance of the Scissors

Fantasia Latina, Colombian Folklore Dance Group will present Latin folklore dances from the different regions of the South American continent, and the famous Peruvian Dance of the Scissors will be performed  by Jose Navarro.  Music from the Caribbean will be delivered by Melody Steel  band.

The well known Can Can dance show will be performed by Funki Feathers  in a Latin style, as well as the Limbo Dance and competition.  Everyone will also be invited to join in with a conga dance while Luisito Mosquera and Grupo Lema, a Salsa and Merengue Band will play the latest Latin hits.

Edlin Josephs, international dance instructor and performer, will be leading the Salsa dance workshops for the public to attempt the most exotic and sexy dance in the world.

Founder and organiser of the festival, Peruvian born Annie Bazan-De-Fisher says:  “This will be a wonderful  and happy event , it will be a great day full  of fun, colour and is an event for  all the family to attend and learn about Latin culture.  It will be great way to get an authentic taste of Latin America.”

The festival has become a unique event in the city of Birmingham and the most established Latin Festival in the UK and is solely organised by ABS* Latin Promotions, a voluntary and non-profit making organisation.
