White Knuckle Rugby

Poem by site user Dave Finchett
Wolverhampton based writer and photographer Dave Finchett wrote a poem inspired by the Wolverhampton Rhinos wheelchair rugby team.

White Knuckle Rugby

Wheelchair rugby players

You've got to grab or pass the ball,
Spin that chair – don't stop at all;
Score that goal in the blink of an eye,
Leave your opponents asking why.

Close them down!
Take them out of the game!
Pass downfield and improve your aim.
Make pistons out of those biceps,
Work at the wheels with your triceps.

You're a modern-day charioteer,
Every smash up is full-on here!
Fixed in the gaze of each spectator,
The pressure won't ease off later.

You've got to go hell for leather -
One team fighting all together!
Ride that chariot! Beat them all!
Gladiator of the rugby ball!
