Carl Chinn

Carl is a passionate Brummie, a history professor and has been awarded an MBE - find out more about him.

Brummie born and bred, his Mom from Aston, his Dad from Sparkbrook, Carl was born in the exotic Sorrento hospital in Moseley.

1986 saw Carl gain his Ph.D. (after spending time as a bookmaker) and he is now Director of the Birmingham Lives multimedia archive at South Birmingham College.

Carl writes a weekly local history column in the Birmingham Evening Mail and edits the popular Carl Chinn's Brummagem Magazine. He also writes for the Express and Star.

Carl has written twenty books about Birmingham and working-class life in general.

He has also made three videos and has appeared as the link man on two CDs of songs about Birmingham.

Carl has a regular slot on the Ed Doolan show on Wednesdays and Fridays.

In 2001 Carl was awarded the MBE for his services to local history and charity.
